Youth Out Loud 1000

The aim of this project is to listen to young people across a broad spectrum of backgrounds, ages and interests, to engage and encourage their involvement in a social change process to support collaboratively designed services that meet the identified needs.

With the guidance of the YOL 1000 Backbone Group, the project focuses on three areas:

  • Conversations with young people

  • Systems mapping and resources mapping for service providers

  • Gathering data around the youth conversations and other projects already in the community to support other groups with process and rigour, and identify “gap” data

The project is working from an evidence base (Unmet Needs of Youth, published in 2019 by RSDC). YOL 1000 aims to give young people a louder voice, and an opportunity to be valued by and connected with the community. The voices of our young people contribute to bring about social change in the Mackay community, by facilitating youth-driven local solutions to local issues and improving their capability to be active and engaged in their communities.

Our YOL 1000 partners include:

  • Mackay Regional Council

  • Youth service providers

  • Indigenous organisations

  • Schools

  • Youth groups
