Building Community and Economic Legacy- December 2022
Building Community and Economic Legacy in the Greater Whitsunday Region is funded by the Building Better Regions (Round 5) grant. The aim of the program is to explore and raise awareness of the concepts of inclusive growth in the region.
Two forums were held in November in Proserpine and Moranbah, and community organizations, industry groups, local governments, and businesses were invited to attend. Discussions focused on socio-economic issues in the Greater Whitsunday Region and how we re-think economic growth to ensure that the benefits are more equally shared and focus on people's wellbeing.
Professor Alan Dale from The Cairns Institute facilitated the session and Elise Parups from Queensland Social Enterprise Council Ltd was the guest speaker. Mayor Anne Baker shared what is happening in the Isaac region.
The key issues explored were:
· How well are the regions doing with inclusive growth?
· What are the top two or 3 missing social elements?
· What are the potential regional pathways?
A final forum and agreement on a course of action will be held in March 2023.
