Better Together Housing Project
Better Together Housing is a programme designed by women over 55 to meet the needs of independent women like themselves. It is tailored to bring women together in a safe and secure way to find shared accommodation.
Participants can be women who own or rent their home but are interested in finding a woman to share with, or women who are looking for a new place to live with one (or more) other women. We are different to regular house-share finder platforms as we are specifically for older women. Every registered participant has undertaken a police check so members can feel secure. Our participants need to be open to negotiate how their home can be shared, and we have resources to support this.
Better Together Housing is an inclusive community and welcomes women over 55 to respectfully participate regardless of where they have come from, their religion, culture or sexuality. The programme does not provide housing, but is designed to help participants connect and support each other to find housing solutions together.
To foster this peer support, we facilitate monthly face to face gatherings called Get it Togethers for women to build relationships with potential sharers, and explore the idea of shared housing in a safe and secure way.
