Greater Whitsunday Home Share Campaign

The Greater Whitsunday region, like much of Australia, is facing a severe housing crisis. Over the past year, rental availability has dropped by 30–40%, driving up demand and skyrocketing rental prices.

This shortage makes it increasingly difficult for businesses to recruit and retain staff, particularly in essential sectors like small businesses, hospitality, education, health, and allied health. Students and service providers are also heavily affected.

The lack of affordable housing is reducing service levels, deterring people from living in or visiting the region. While Greater Whitsunday Communities (GWC) and Regional Development Australia, Greater Whitsundays (RDA GW) are working on long-term housing solutions, there are steps individuals and organizations can take to address the issue in the short and medium term. We have created a comprehensive resource that highlights various home-sharing and alternative housing options, designed to assist those who wish to contribute but are unsure of the available solutions.
